The College of Arts & Sciences will upgrade to GroupWise 5 on October 16-17.
Please sign up for free GroupWise training by calling the College of Arts & Sciences Information Technology Services at x4498.
Advantages
Year 2000 Compliant
GroupWise 5 is fully Year 2000 compliant.
GroupWise 4, which we are using now, is not Year 2000 compliant and could adversely affect
your scheduled appointments and misrepresent other dates.
More Attachment Viewers
Isn't it frustrating when you click on an attachment and GroupWise either can't show it to
you or displays garbage? GroupWise 5 has a new set of attachment viewers so that you can
double-click on those attachments and see what's in them without having to save them to your
hard disk first.
Internet Friendly
With GroupWise 5, you do not need to type "IN:" in front of Internet addresses!
GroupWise 5 also highlights web links just like a web browser does.
Click on the link and GroupWise will start your web browser and take you directly to that link.
Native Windows 95/NT versions
The GroupWise 4 client that we are using now was written for Windows 3.1 (Gasp!)
Windows 95/98/NT have to emulate a Windows 3.1 environment just to run it, which slows things down.
GroupWise 5 clients are written specifically for Windows 95/98/NT so they require no emulation.
This means that GroupWise will respond faster than before.
The GroupWise 5 clients are faster and more reliable.
These clients work through the Internet so now you can use the same program at work and at home.
Better Web Interface
The new GroupWise 5 web interface is more attractive, more capable, and easier to use.
If your web browser supports Sun's Java technology
(and it probably does), then the web interface will somewhat resemble what you see at work, rather than
being completely foreign to you. The new web interface allows sending attachments.
